WHEREAS, Major Olaf H. Shibusawa of the Scott District of Fauquier County was honored as a 2006 Citizen of the Year by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors on January 11, 2007; and

WHEREAS, each year Fauquier County honors citizens from each magisterial district for their outstanding contributions to the community; and

WHEREAS, an American hero who was honored with the Bronze Star for bravery and meritorious service to his country, Major Shibusawa served 15 months in the United States Army in Operation Iraqi Freedom, leading over 240 combat missions with Special Operations in the Sunni Triangle; and

WHEREAS, during his duty in Iraq, Major Shibusawa spearheaded an e-mail program between Iraqi children and two classes at Ritchie Elementary School, providing the students opportunities for friendship and culture; and

WHEREAS, Major Shibusawa and his supportive family deserve the appreciation of the citizens of the Commonwealth for their service and sacrifice to the nation and their community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Major Olaf H. Shibusawa as the 2006 Fauquier County Citizen of the Year for the Scott District; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Major Olaf H. Shibusawa as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his dedication to Fauquier County.
