2007 SESSION
079224308WHEREAS, the Glenvar High School girls' volleyball team won the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group A state championship on November 18, 2006, by defeating Gate City High School; and
WHEREAS, capping an extraordinary season in which the team was 28-0 in matches and won 84 of 87 games, the Glenvar Highlanders, from Roanoke County, dominated the final four to take home their first state volleyball title; and
WHEREAS, in the semifinal match, Glenvar faced Mathews High School and dispatched them in three straight games, 25-16, 25-18, and 25-22, to secure a spot in the final; and
WHEREAS, the Highlanders established themselves quickly in the championship match, winning the first game 26-14, but the second was closer with several ties late in the game; and
WHEREAS, the Highlanders wrapped up the championship in the third game with a score of 25-16, winning the last point with a beautiful tip over a double block; and
WHEREAS, the spectacular performance of the 2006 Glenvar Highlanders is a tribute to the talent, dedication, and perseverance of the players; the leadership of Coach Mark Rohrback and his staff; and the support of the students, faculty, and parents of Glenvar High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Glenvar High School girls' volleyball team on its VHSL Group A state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Mark Rohrback as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the outstanding performance of the 2006 Glenvar Highlanders.
