WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill, Sr., of the Virginia State Police Department, is remembered for his valiant performance as a law-enforcement officer and for his devotion to his family and community; and

WHEREAS, Robert Hill was born in North Carolina on March 27, 1964, moved to Franklin, Virginia, as a young child, graduated from Franklin High School in 1982, and earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Paul D. Camp Community College; and

WHEREAS, Robert Hill served three years with the Virginia Department of Corrections at the Deerfield Correctional Center and transferred to the Virginia State Police Department in 1987; graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy in 1988, and ascended through the ranks while assigned to the areas of Williamsburg, Sussex County, and Southampton County; and

WHEREAS, during his 19-year career, Senior Trooper Hill served as a state police field training officer, instructor, and certified crime prevention specialist; and

WHEREAS, on November 24, 2006, Senior Trooper Hill was tragically killed in the line of duty while attending to a motorist stopped on Route 58 in Southampton County; and

WHEREAS, committed to protecting and serving Virginia’s citizens and enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, Senior Trooper Hill was a dedicated and outstanding public servant and a respected citizen who lived an honorable and responsible life; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper Hill was an active member of First Baptist Church in Courtland, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #56, member of the Courtland Ruritan Club and member of the Franklin Sportsman Association; and

WHEREAS, the loss of Senior Trooper Hill is tragic for his family, his fellow troopers, and the citizens of the Commonwealth, and is a reminder of the great sacrifices made by our public safety officers and all first responders throughout the Commonwealth and the nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the passing of a dedicated public servant and an outstanding Virginian, Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill, Sr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Melissa, Robbie, and Melia Hill, the wife and children of Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill, Sr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
