Celebrating the life of D. Marilyn Doheny.

WHEREAS, D. Marilyn Doheny, a longtime civic leader and tireless advocate for the Democratic Party of Virginia, died on September 15, 2006; and

WHEREAS, a native of Wilson County, North Carolina, Marilyn Doheny grew up in Tidewater and graduated from Deep Creek High School in Chesapeake; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Doheny attended Peace College in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the Norfolk Division of The College of William and Mary, now Old Dominion University; and

WHEREAS, for more than 20 years, Marilyn Doheny served as a legislative assistant in the House of Delegates of Virginia, working for Norfolk Delegates George Heilig, Howard Copeland, and Don Williams; and

WHEREAS, for most of her adult life, Marilyn Doheny was a leader in civic and Democratic Party activities in Norfolk, making important contributions to the Northside Civic League, the 2nd Congressional District Democratic Committee, and the Democratic State Central Committee; and

WHEREAS, Marilyn Doheny will be remembered for her generous nature and her feisty personality and will be greatly missed by her devoted husband, Vince, and their son, Michael; her stepsons, Vincent and Eric; and her step-grandchildren, Christopher and Julianne; and by her numerous friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the passing of a community leader and an exceptional Virginian, D. Marilyn Doheny; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of D. Marilyn Doheny as an expression of the General Assembly’s sorrow at her passing and great respect for her memory.
