2007 SESSION
WHEREAS, Dr. Talmage Stanley is recognized as the distinguished recipient of the Earnest E. and Elizabeth C. Maiden Award by Emory & Henry College (E&H); and
WHEREAS, the Earnest E. and Elizabeth C. Maiden Award was founded in 1975 in honor of the Maidens and in memory of their lives of service to the community, the church, and Emory & Henry College and is awarded annually to a college employee for unusual academic or administrative achievement; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Talmage "Tal" Stanley, a 1983 E&H graduate, received the prestigious award for his outstanding service to the community and Emory & Henry College and he was honored during the fall 2006 convocation, which officially opened the 2006-07 school year; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stanley has been invaluable in organizing E&H student volunteers to serve citizens in need in communities throughout Virginia and West Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stanley spearheaded an effort to raise $1.2 million for the construction of a medical facility and community center in Meadowview, a small town in Washington County; and
WHEREAS, committed to improving the quality of life of his fellow citizens, Dr. Stanley serves on the boards of directors for the Washington County United Way and the Washington County Office on Youth and as chair of the Meadowview First Steering Committee and vice president of the Meadowview Civic Club; and
WHEREAS, a 10th-generation Southwest Virginian, Dr. Stanley joined Emory & Henry in 1996, serving as the director of the Appalachian Center for Community Service and the Bonner Scholars Program; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stanley is a respected member of the Emory & Henry Political Science Department and teaches public policy and community service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Dr. Talmage Stanley as the distinguished recipient of the Earnest E. and Elizabeth C. Maiden Award by Emory & Henry College; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dr. Talmage Stanley as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his commitment to community service and the citizens of Southwest Virginia and the Commonwealth.
