Commending the Hopewell Women of the Moose on the occasion of their 50th anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Women of the Moose, Chapter 1180, are celebrating their 50th anniversary of caring for citizens of all ages and playing a vital role in the civic and charitable life of the Tri-Cities area; and

WHEREAS, the Women of the Moose and the Loyal Order of Moose comprise the family fraternity of 1.5 million men and women in four nations dedicated to bettering the lives of children and the elderly in need, making communities better places to live and raise families, and providing wholesome family recreation at a modest cost; and

WHEREAS, since its founding on March 10, 1957, the Hopewell Women of the Moose, with members from Hopewell, Prince George, Colonial Heights, Chester, Disputanta, Petersburg, Richmond, and as far away as North Carolina and Maryland, have given economic, educational, and community assistance to residents and have provided scholarships and programs for young people; and

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Women of the Moose generously support the fire departments and first responders of the City of Hopewell and Prince George County, public libraries, food pantries and shelters for battered women and children, as well as coordinate birthday and holiday activities for residents of nursing facilities; and

WHEREAS, over the years in peace and at war, the Hopewell Women of the Moose have proudly supported the troops of Fort Lee who have served in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and currently in Afghanistan and Iraq, providing gift packages, welcome home celebrations, and other services; and

WHEREAS, as an integral part of the Moose family fraternity, the Hopewell Women of the Moose enthusiastically support their fraternal organization, the Loyal Order of Moose, Hopewell Lodge, and its numerous missions; Mooseheart Child City and School, Inc., a residential childcare facility near Chicago for children and teens in need; and Moosehaven, a retirement home in Florida for dependent members; and

WHEREAS, the Hopewell Women of the Moose, Chapter 1180, will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a ceremony and gala festivities at Hopewell Lodge on March 10, 2007; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Hopewell Women of the Moose on the occasion of their 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Hopewell Women of the Moose as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for their commitment to the citizens of the Commonwealth and best wishes for future success.
