2007 SESSION
WHEREAS, the 2006 Woodlawn Little League Junior All-Stars baseball team captured the Junior League state title held in Clifton Forge on July 14-18, 2006, and went on to win the Southeastern Regional Junior League championship held in Cartersville, Georgia, on August 5-9, 2006; and
WHEREAS, the confident Woodlawn Junior All-Stars defeated Georgia 10-9 in the regional tournament's semi-final game and Florida 10-3 in the championship game; and
WHEREAS, most of the Woodlawn Junior All-Stars, aged 13-14, have been playing together since they were nine years old, and the talented team's most outstanding asset is its superb defense; and
WHEREAS, following Woodlawn's decisive state District 9 victory over the Alleghany Highlands, the players and coaches, in an infectious revelry of team spirit, were provided a fresh Mohawk haircut by a team mom; and
WHEREAS, celebrated as the Mohawk team, the players Bhendari Moore, Tony Troiano, Joey Marino, Cohn Amerau, Brandan O’Clisham, Graham Henry, Mike Murdock, Andrew Sable, Zac Quigley, John Jarding, Ethan Jarding, Jonathan Stephens, and Jimmy Woehrle made valuable contributions in a tremendous team effort, winning four games at the district level and five at the state level, an outstanding record of 9-0 overall; and
WHEREAS, the Woodlawn Little League's regional victory allowed the All-Stars to participate in the Junior League Baseball World Series held in Taylor, Michigan, August 13-19, as the South's entry in the United States Pool of six teams; and
WHEREAS, the commendable performance of the 2006 Woodlawn Little League Junior All-Stars is a tribute to the dedication and perseverance of the players; the skill and management of coaches Robert Troiano, Luke Sable, and Rob Woehrle; the hard work of the parents, and the generous support of the Woodlawn community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby congratulate the Woodlawn Little League Junior All-Stars on their well-deserved state and regional Junior League baseball titles; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the 2006 Woodlawn Little League Junior All-Stars baseball team as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for its championship performance.
