HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 563
Commending the Turner Ashby High School baseball team.

WHEREAS, Turner Ashby High School captured the 2006 Virginia High School League Group AA baseball state championship, defeating the Tunstall High School Trojans, 5-0, at Dedmon Center Park at Radford University on June 10, 2006; and

WHEREAS, from Rockingham County, the Turner Ashby High School Knights won the school's first state baseball title since 2002, as well as recognition as one of only two Group AA baseball teams in the state to claim five state championships; and

WHEREAS, the impressive and hard-working Knights, who were defeated in last year's title game with Tunstall High School, were determined and motivated all season long to defeat the Trojans if they had their chance at a rematch; and

WHEREAS, relying on strong pitching, excellent hitting, and a formidable defense, the Turner Ashby Knights finished the season with a strong 26-1 record; and

WHEREAS, the success of the 2006 Turner Ashby High School baseball team is a tribute to the leadership of Coach Richie Anderson and his staff; the diligence of pitching coach Eddie Clark and his pitchers; the discipline and teamwork of all of the talented Knights; and the tremendous support of the students, teachers, parents, and the Bridgewater community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the 2006 Turner Ashby High School baseball team as the Virginia High School League Group AA baseball state champions; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Richie Anderson on behalf of the Turner Ashby Knights as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation of the team's outstanding 2006 baseball season.
