062704554Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 56-470.1, as follows:
§ 56-470.1. Verification of telephone directory information.
A. Any telephone company in the Commonwealth that compiles the names, addresses, and calling numbers of telephones of its subscribers for publication of a telephone directory shall verify the accuracy of such information.
B. If information regarding the names, addresses, and calling numbers of telephones that is published in a telephone directory prepared on the basis of such listing information compiled by the telephone company, or its agent or affiliate, is incorrect or incomplete, the telephone company shall (i) not assess any person with a charge or fee for a telephone call for directory assistance, including such a call placed to digits 4-1-1, regarding a telephone number for which information is incorrect or incomplete as published and (ii) provide a credit of $10 per month to the account of the subscriber whose information is incorrect or incomplete as published.
