2007 SESSION
(HB2048)GOVERNOR'S VETO
March 26, 2007
TO THE VIRGINIA HOUSE OF DELEGATES:
HOUSE BILL NO. 2048
Pursuant to Article V, Section 6, of the Constitution of Virginia, I veto House Bill 2048, which would exempt certain schools from the fee assessed for building inspections solely because they are operated under the auspices of a religious institution.
There is no reason to single out any specific subset of schools and exempt them from paying this fee. It is constitutionally questionable to offer preferential financial treatment to schools simply because they are religious, and accordingly, I veto this bill.
