2006 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Saint Timothy School, a Catholic coeducational elementary school in the Diocese of Arlington, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Saint Timothy School's mission is "to spread the Word of God, while providing for the spiritual, academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of our students"; and
WHEREAS, founding principal Marilyn S. Valatka opened Saint Timothy School, located on Poplar Tree Road in Chantilly, in August 1981 with a staff of four teachers; and
WHEREAS, Marilyn S. Valatka taught kindergarten until December of the school's first year and also served as Saint Timothy's principal, a position she has held with distinction for 25 years; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Saint Timothy School has evolved into an innovative and inspirational institution of nearly 700 students, providing quality education through the hard work of an exemplary faculty, a dedicated professional staff, and a reading specialist; and
WHEREAS, Saint Timothy School is equipped with a modern Learning Resource Center, a computer lab, a science lab, and an impressive new library with an audiovisual room and reading pit for all of the students to enjoy; and
WHEREAS, in the fall of 2004, Saint Timothy School proudly opened a preschool for three- and four-year-olds; and
WHEREAS, Saint Timothy School has been honored with numerous awards, including D.A.R.E.'s school drug awareness program award and the United States Department of Education's coveted Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award; and
WHEREAS, Saint Timothy School celebrates its 25th anniversary with a gala and commemorative festivities for all to enjoy on April 1, 2006; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Saint Timothy School be hereby commended and congratulated on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Principal Marilyn S. Valatka as an expression of the members' gratitude for Saint Timothy School's commitment to the education of its students and the well-being of the community of Fairfax County.
