Commending the Monacan High School baseball team.

WHEREAS, on June 10, 2006, the Monacan High School baseball team won the Virginia High School League Group AAA state championship by defeating Oakton High School of Vienna, 9–8, in the state title game at Christopher Newport University; and

WHEREAS, in winning the state championship, the Monacan Chiefs, from Chesterfield County, completed an outstanding 2006 season with a record of 20–6; and

WHEREAS, the Monacan Chiefs were runners-up in the highly competitive Central Region, then peaked at the right time to find success in the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, the Monacan Chiefs displayed in the playoffs the same qualities that carried them to victory in the regular season: outstanding pitching, timely hitting, and a never-say-die attitude; and

WHEREAS, in winning their first state Group AAA baseball championship, the Chiefs won in the final game for Head Coach Ben Bradford, who has resigned to go into private business; and

WHEREAS, by displaying leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the regular season and postseason tournaments, the Chiefs baseball team proudly represented Monacan High School and its supporters in the Chesterfield County community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Monacan High School baseball team on its 2006 Group AAA state baseball championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Ben Bradford in honor of the championship performance of the 2006 Monacan Chiefs baseball team.
