WHEREAS, Clarke County High School girls' basketball team (29-1) is recognized for its exemplary 2005-2006 season and its outstanding performance in the Virginia High School League Group A girls' state basketball championship tournament at the Siegel Center on March 11, 2006; and
WHEREAS, as Group A state runners-up, the Clarke County High School Eagles were Bull Run District Champions, Region B Champions, and played extremely well throughout the state tournament, convincingly defeating Stonewall Jackson High School 65-53 to advance to the title game against Gate City; and
WHEREAS, three outstanding Eagles players, Tristan Hardesty, Joy Braithwaite, and Laura Braithwaite, were chosen to play in the annual Border Classic on April 9, 2006, at Musselman High School, which featured both a boys' and girls' all-star basketball game comprised of seniors from The Winchester Star area versus those from the Martinsburg Journal area; and
WHEREAS, the very talented and enthusiastic Eagle players—Sarah Chrane, Maddie Crosby, Brittany Fields, Leslie Hardesty, Jill Hobbs, Kelly McCall, Danielle Moyer, Tae Payton, Courtney Peake, and Taylor Warner—also made valuable contributions in a tremendous team effort in the championship games and throughout the season; and
WHEREAS, the head coach of the Clarke County girls’ basketball team, Tim Lawrence, was honored as The Winchester Star’s 2006 Girls’ Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Clarke County High School's triumph is a tribute to the leadership of Head Coach Tim Lawrence and assistant coaches Betsy Munson and Tom McCall; the hard work of the players; and the support of the students, faculty, and fans of Clarke County High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Clarke County High School girls' basketball team on an exceptional 2005-2006 basketball season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach Tim Lawrence on behalf of the Eagles as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for their superb sportsmanship and championship performance.
