2006 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Detective Vicky O. Armel of the Fairfax County Police Department is remembered for her valiant performance as a law-enforcement officer and for her devotion to her faith, family, and fellow officers; and
WHEREAS, Vicky Armel graduated from Fairfax High School in 1983 and joined the Fairfax County Sheriff's Department; and
WHEREAS, following eight years of meritorious service, Detective Armel continued her law-enforcement career with the Fairfax County Police Department, where she was greatly admired and respected as a superb nine-year veteran of the department; and
WHEREAS, Detective Armel worked at the Fair Oaks District Station before being assigned to Chantilly's Sully District Police Station and served as a professional shooting instructor for the Fairfax County Police Department; and
WHEREAS, on May 8, 2006, Detective Armel was tragically killed in the line of duty during a grievous incident involving a gunman outside the Sully District Police Station; and
WHEREAS, committed to protecting and serving Virginia's citizens and enforcing the laws of the Commonwealth, Detective Armel was a courageous officer, a respected citizen, a devoted mother and wife, and an inspiration to all who knew her; and
WHEREAS, always concerned for the well-being of others, Detective Armel was a faithful member of the Mountain View Community Church in Culpeper and was actively involved in its many missions and outreach activities; and
WHEREAS, well-known and loved for her infectious personality and generous nature, Detective Armel will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by her devoted husband, Tyler, also a Fairfax County police officer; her two wonderful children, Thomas and Masen; her parents and numerous other family members and friends; and the congregation of Mountain View Community Church; and
WHEREAS, the loss of Detective Armel is tragic, not only for her family but also for her fellow law-enforcement officers and the citizens of the Commonwealth, and it is a reminder of the great sacrifices made by our police officers and all first responders throughout the Commonwealth and the nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the loss of an exemplary law-enforcement officer and a fine Virginian, Vicky O. Armel; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Vicky O. Armel as an expression of the respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
