Celebrating the life of Mark Daniel DeHart.

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper-Agent Mark Daniel DeHart, an outstanding law-enforcement officer and dedicated public servant, died on March 26, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Mark Daniel DeHart was born on July 27, 1962, in Martinsville, graduated from Fieldale-Collinsville High School in 1980, and received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Radford University in 1984; and

WHEREAS, after completing his college education, Mark Daniel DeHart worked part-time as a reporter for The News Journal in Radford; and

WHEREAS, aspiring to a career in law enforcement, Mark Daniel DeHart joined the Virginia State Police in July 1985, worked as a trooper-trainee in Bristol, and entered the Virginia State Police Academy on September 29, 1985; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from the Academy on February 14, 1986, Trooper DeHart reported to his first patrol assignment with the Virginia State Police Fairfax Division, which included duty in Lorton, Herndon, and Centreville; and

WHEREAS, Trooper DeHart continued his distinguished career upon transferring to the Virginia State Police Salem Division, serving the citizens of Roanoke County and Henry County; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and extraordinary public servant, Mark DeHart achieved the rank of senior trooper on November 11, 1995; and

WHEREAS, on July 1, 2000, Senior Trooper DeHart transferred to the Special Operations Division in Henry County and in 2004 was promoted to senior trooper-agent and was assigned to the Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT) unit; and

WHEREAS, a respected law-enforcement officer with considerable expertise and experience, Senior Trooper-Agent DeHart served as the HEAT program coordinator for western and southwest Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Senior Trooper-Agent DeHart will be sorely missed by his family, his numerous friends and admirers, his fellow troopers, and the citizens of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding public servant and fine Virginian, Mark Daniel DeHart; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mark Daniel DeHart as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
