WHEREAS, Louise Bland Morgan, aged 103, an admired and respected citizen of Gloucester, died on September 27, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Louise Morgan, the daughter of the late Louise Gayle Bland and Harvey S. “Sam” Bland, was born in 1903 at Buena Vista, her family’s home place, located in Cologne in King and Queen County; and

WHEREAS, Louise Morgan studied at Blackstone College and graduated in 1924 from Farmville State Normal School, now Longwood University; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated and exemplary educator, Louise Morgan taught at Urbanna Elementary School and served as the school's principal; and

WHEREAS, on September 8, 1926, Louise Morgan married her beloved husband, L. V. “Happy” Morgan, and the couple made their home in Gloucester Court House; and

WHEREAS, Louise Morgan gave her time and immense talents to numerous civic organizations, including as a charter member of the Gloucester Women’s Club, a charter member of the Augustine Warner Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and as a member of King’s Daughters and the Botetourt Parent Teachers Association; and

WHEREAS, the oldest living member of the First Presbyterian Church, Louise Morgan served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and substitute organist, and had been an active member of the Women of the Church; and

WHEREAS, Louise Morgan was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years and by her son and daughter-in-law, James V. and Violet Morgan; and

WHEREAS, Louise Morgan will be fondly remembered for her kind and generous nature and greatly missed by her devoted son, Harvey B. Morgan, and his wife, Mary Helen, of Saluda; her daughter, Mary Louise Jarvis, and her husband, F. Edwin Jarvis, of Foster; her six cherished grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and her numerous friends and admirers in Gloucester; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginia gentlewoman, Louise Bland Morgan; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Louise Bland Morgan as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
