Commending St. Elmo's Coffee Pub on the occasion of its 10th anniversary.

WHEREAS, St. Elmo's Coffee Pub, located in the Del Ray community of Alexandria, is recognized for its outstanding contributions on the occasion of its 10th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Nora Partlow and Scott Mitchell founded St. Elmo's Coffee Pub in April 1996 not only to establish an exemplary Del Ray business, but also to provide extraordinary public service; and

WHEREAS, St. Elmo's Coffee Pub is recognized as the catalyst for the transformation of Del Ray's Mount Vernon Avenue into a revitalized family and pedestrian-friendly venue of boutiques, businesses, and restaurants; and

WHEREAS, St. Elmo's Coffee Pub has successfully created a community gathering place that facilitates discussion and camaraderie, where local artists, musicians, politicians, neighborhood groups, and residents meet and socialize; and

WHEREAS, besides its warm and inviting atmosphere, St. Elmo's Coffee Pub offers coffees from around the world supplied by a local roaster and a careful selection of environmentally natural and healthy products; and

WHEREAS, St. Elmo's Coffee Pub supports and partners with local civic organizations, including First Night Alexandria, the Potomac West Business Association, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, and the Alexandria Convention and Visitors Association; and

WHEREAS, since its opening, St. Elmo's Coffee Pub has received numerous accolades and honors for its community service, including the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce's Hospitality Business of the Year, Retail Business of the Year, and Stabler Community Service awards; the Grand Lodge of AF & AM Community Builders Award; the Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry Certificate of Appreciation; the Salvation Army Bell Ringer Award; the Virginia Governor’s Volunteerism Award; and the Empowered Women International's Evelyn Lapeer Award; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate St. Elmo's Coffee Pub on its outstanding contributions and public service on the occasion of its 10th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nora Partlow and the employees of St. Elmo's Coffee Pub as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of their dedication to the citizens of the Del Ray community of Alexandria.
