WHEREAS, Frederick M. Crabtree of Vienna, a revered citizen and longtime community benefactor, is recognized for his outstanding service to the citizens of Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, on June 28, 2006, the Fairfax County Park Authority Board voted unanimously to rename Fox Mill District Park in Herndon for a beloved former board member and volunteer, Fred Crabtree; and

WHEREAS, the announcement of Fox Mill's new name, Fred Crabtree Park, was revealed to the community at the gala opening ceremony of the District 4 Little League All-Stars on Saturday, July 1, 2006, at the Falls Church Little League complex; and

WHEREAS, Fred Crabtree gained construction expertise while serving his country overseas during World War II, which made him a valuable board member of the Fairfax County Park Authority from 1969 to 1992; and

WHEREAS, a concerned citizen and conservationist, Fred Crabtree was largely responsible for the acquisition of land that over the years became eight Fairfax County public parks, including Nottoway, Oak Marr, Peterson Lane, South Lakes, E.C. Lawrence, Baron Cameron, Lake Fairfax, and Fox Mill, and spearheaded the development of 41 fields for Little League teams; and

WHEREAS, affectionately known as Mr. Baseball, Fred Crabtree has been a great supporter of young people and a dedicated Vienna Little League volunteer for over 50 years, serving as president, chairman of the board, and sports field manager; and

WHEREAS, in 1972 Fred Crabtree was appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors as a charter member of the Fairfax County Athletic Association, and for 16 years, he was devoted to expanding softball and baseball opportunities for boys and girls throughout Northern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, the Fred Crabtree Park dedication is a fitting tribute to Fred Crabtree and his lifetime of commitment to his community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Frederick M. Crabtree on his well-deserved recognition and the designation of Fred Crabtree Park in his honor; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frederick M. Crabtree as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his extraordinary accomplishments on behalf of the citizens of Northern Virginia.
