060364268WHEREAS, the popular and exemplary WAMV AM radio station is recognized for 30 years of outstanding service to the citizens of Amherst County; and
WHEREAS, on September 6, 1976, under the original call letters, WKYY AM signed on for the first time with Mike Starling as the station manager and disc jockey, playing alternative country and top 40 music; and
WHEREAS, after several changes in the call letters, location, and managers, the station was purchased by Bob Langstaff in 1988, and the call letters were changed to WAMV; and
WHEREAS, WAMV increased its signal strength from 1,000 watts to 2,500 watts in 1992 in order to reach a larger audience; and
WHEREAS, WAMV’s format is a mix of the very best in gospel, country, and bluegrass music, providing superb listening enjoyment for the Amherst County community; and
WHEREAS, dedicated to excellence in radio broadcasting, Bob Langstaff has been the owner of WAMV for 18 years; and
WHEREAS, WAMV AM is a vital and longtime partner of the County of Amherst and supported by its many loyal fans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate WAMV AM on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bob Langstaff and WAMV AM as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for the station’s commitment to the citizens of Amherst County and best wishes for continued success in the future.
