Celebrating the life of Jerald S. Griffin.

WHEREAS, Jerald S. Griffin, respected Virginia Beach resident and beloved teacher, died on August 2, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Jerald “Jerry” S. Griffin graduated from Norview High School, earned a bachelor's degree in political science and education and a master’s degree in education from Old Dominion University, and served his country in the United States Marine Corps; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated educator, Jerry Griffin was employed as a school teacher for nine years, during which time he was involved in the implementation of an experimental program for gifted students in Portsmouth; and

WHEREAS, most recently, Jerry Griffin was a beloved teacher at Churchland Middle School, where he was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2005; and

WHEREAS, always concerned for the welfare of his fellow citizens, Jerry Griffin was active in community activities and political affairs on the local, state, and national level and served as secretary for the Virginia Beach Democratic Committee; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Griffin was a great supporter of and enthusiastic participant in local theatre and immensely enjoyed karaoke and country music; and

WHEREAS, a very talented, spiritual, and generous person, Jerry Griffin was a lay cantor at Beth Chaverim for 14 years and a religious school teacher at Ohef Sholom Temple for 13 years; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Griffin will be fondly remembered for his amiable personality and compassionate nature and will be missed by his devoted wife, Ban Longman Griffin, and his beloved son; his mother, three brothers, and numerous loving family members; and his countless friends and admirers in the Norfolk community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Jerald S. Griffin; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Jerald S. Griffin as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
