Celebrating the life of Mamie M. Kenney.

WHEREAS, Mamie M. Kenney of Richmond, respected citizen and beloved elementary school teacher, died on August 10, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Mamie Kenney grew up in Richmond and graduated from Virginia Randolph High School, where she was an excellent and popular student; and

WHEREAS, a dedicated educator for the Henrico County Public Schools, Mamie Kenney taught for many years at Dumbarton Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless young people and was well-known as a compassionate friend and mentor to new teachers; and

WHEREAS, Mamie Kenney was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, was active in civic affairs, and gave her time and immense talents to numerous community activities; and

WHEREAS, always concerned about the welfare of her neighbors, Mamie Kenney was a faithful member of the congregation of Moore Street Missionary Baptist Church and a participant in its many missions; and

WHEREAS, Mamie Kenney will be fondly remembered for her dedication as an educator, her passion for life, and her infectious personality; and

WHEREAS, a great supporter of all of her family members, Mamie Kenney will be missed by her husband of 41 years, former Richmond mayor Walter T. Kenney, Sr.; her two devoted daughters and loving son; her two grandsons, three granddaughters, and great-granddaughter; her three sisters, three brothers, and a multitude of loving family members; and her countless friends in the Richmond metropolitan area; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine teacher and an outstanding Virginian, Mamie M. Kenney; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mamie M. Kenney as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
