2006 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, the Montross Middle School community problem solvers team of Westmoreland County won first place in the intermediate division, environmental category, at the Future Problem Solving International Conference held at Colorado State University, June 1-4, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Community Problem Solvers (CmPS) is a component of Future Problem Solving of Virginia, a yearlong educational program that combines the rigorous intellectual challenge of creative problem solving with an interdisciplinary study of the future; and
WHEREAS, the Montross Middle School CmPS team members are Shane Allen, Shannon Carpenter, Rebecca Jones, Trent Jones, Lily Sanford, Anne Self, Katrin Sydnor, and Maxi Taylor, and the team is coached by Anne Evans and Ruth Jones; and
WHEREAS, the Montross Middle School problem solver team members are known as the F.B.I.s, which stands for “Fighting Back Invasive Species”; and
WHEREAS, CmPS teams recognize, address, and overcome obstacles as they work together to develop a comprehensive plan of action and implementation for their chosen problem in order to make a positive difference in the community; and
WHEREAS, the F.B.I.s spearheaded numerous science awareness activities during the school year, including researching invasive species and making presentations to the elementary and middle school Parent Teachers Association, creating posters of invasive species to display in the schools, sharing information about invasive species during the morning announcements, and making presentations to the Westmoreland County School Board; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Montross Middle School community problem solvers team on its first place intermediate division win at the Future Problem Solving International Conference; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Montross Middle School community problem solvers team for its hard work and dedication to environmental science.
