Celebrating the life of William Raleigh Henshaw.

WHEREAS, William Raleigh Henshaw, a retired teacher of the Hanover County Public Schools and a lifelong resident of Mechanicsville, died on March 17, 2006; and

WHEREAS, William Henshaw attended Randolph-Macon College and was an ordained Methodist minister; and

WHEREAS, a patriotic American, William Henshaw served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, William Henshaw taught in the Hanover County school system for 25 years at Pearson’s Corner Elementary School and Chickahominy Middle School; and

WHEREAS, after retiring as an educator, William Henshaw continued to serve as a volunteer yearbook advisor and event photographer at Chickahominy Middle School; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate mentor and great believer in young people, William Henshaw participated in field trips, school dances, sports events, and the summer enrichment program and took countless memorable student photos and videos of school activities; and

WHEREAS, a devout person of faith, William Henshaw was a faithful member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church, where he served as a Stephen Minister and was dedicated to the church's many programs and activities to help persons in need in the community; and

WHEREAS, William Henshaw will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband, a dedicated father of three children, and a loving grandfather of five wonderful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, William Henshaw was a legendary community benefactor who was always concerned with the well-being of others and will be missed by his family, his numerous friends and admirers, and the citizens of Hanover County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the loss of an outstanding Virginian, William Raleigh Henshaw; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of William Raleigh Henshaw as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
