Commending Christian Relief Services Charities on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Christian Relief Services Charities located in Lorton, a not-for-profit service and development charity organization, celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2005; and

WHEREAS, founded on April 15, 1985, Christian Relief Services Charities (CRSC) has as its mission to make a difference in the lives of suffering people in the United States and around the world; and

WHEREAS, after 20 years of dedication and hard work, CRSC is committed to doing even more to "redress the gap between those who are prosperous and those who are poor by connecting the vast wealth of America with the critical needs of the poor, the weak, and the sick, for whom poverty is a way of life on planet earth"; and

WHEREAS, early humanitarian efforts by CRSC workers included providing emergency food, water, medicines, and supplies in crisis areas at home and abroad; and

WHEREAS, today, CRSC, through its expanded humanitarian leadership, is responsible for social and economic development programs that establish sustainable water sources, housing, schools, orphanages, and medical facilities in underdeveloped areas of America and Africa; and

WHEREAS, CRSC diligently works to help people help themselves, promoting self-sufficiency, education, and good nutrition and health, as well as working with local residents to creatively and realistically address community problems; and

WHEREAS, CRSC has evolved into one of America's foremost sustainable development charities, and the organization, in the spirit of its original charter, continues to support basic relief efforts by donating food through its food banks; supplying critical medical supplies and tools; and providing new shoes, jackets, blankets, and essentials to people in Africa, in Appalachia, on Native-American reservations, and across the globe; and

WHEREAS, CRSC, its committed administration, staff, and volunteers, with the help of numerous generous supporters in the United States, provide a vital lifeline in times of crisis and compassionate aid in the day-to-day struggle of hundreds of thousands of people in need; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Christian Relief Services Charities on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Christian Relief Services Charities as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for the organization's important charitable efforts at home and abroad and best wishes for continued growth and success in the future.
