Commending the Parkwood Preschool on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Parkwood Preschool, a celebrated and cherished preschool located on Marshall Road in the Town of Vienna and founded by Clarene Vickery, celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2006; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of what is now the University of Southern Mississippi, Clarene Vickery came to Northern Virginia with her husband after World War II; and

WHEREAS, Clarene Vickery, who had great experience with kindergarteners and loved interacting with and nurturing children, began the Parkwood Preschool, teaching 15 young pupils in the pine-paneled recreation room of her Park Street home; and

WHEREAS, in just two years, Clarene Vickery and her small Park Street staff had earned an enviable reputation as early childhood educators, and the school relocated to its present five-acre site and services continued to expand with increasing enrollment; and

WHEREAS, today, the Parkwood Preschool accommodates nearly 250 happy students, aged three to five, and provides stimulating developmental activities, creative art opportunities, and lots of toys, fun, and outdoor adventures on the school's two acre playground; and

WHEREAS, Parkwood Preschool, Clarene Vickery, and the school's enthusiastic and devoted staff have made a difference in the lives of numerous young people during its extraordinary 50 years of service to the Town of Vienna; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Parkwood Preschool on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Clarene Vickery and the Parkwood Preschool as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for the school's commitment to the young people of Vienna and best wishes for continued success in the future.
