Celebrating the life of Lewis Franklin Moore, Jr.

WHEREAS, Lewis Franklin Moore, Jr., of Roanoke, a respected citizen and admired business leader, died on May 10, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Lewis Franklin "Bud" Moore graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in 1938, the Woodberry Forest School in 1940, and went on to attend both Princeton University and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; and

WHEREAS, Bud Moore served his country as a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was assigned as an instructor and squadron commander of B-24 Liberator pilots; and

WHEREAS, after the war, Bud Moore joined Walker Machine & Foundry of Roanoke, serving as president from 1957 through 1992 and as board chairman from 1992 until his death; and

WHEREAS, Bud Moore was president of Stone Printing & Manufacturing Co. from 1968 to 1974, and served on the board of directors for the Defense Orientation Conference Association; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to improving the quality of life of all of the residents of his beloved Roanoke, Bud Moore generously gave his time and considerable talents to numerous professional and civic organizations over the years, serving as a member of the Roanoke Rotary Club, the Young President’s Organization, and the World Business Council, as chairman of the Community Fund Drive and the Red Cross Fund Drive, and as president and director of Help, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, always concerned for the welfare of his neighbors, Bud Moore was a faithful member, deacon, and an inspirational teacher at Second Presbyterian Church and was actively involved in the congregation's many charitable missions; and

WHEREAS, Bud Moore will be fondly remembered and missed by his devoted wife of 57 years, Daisy Williams “Dee” Moore, his loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and numerous other beloved family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby mourn the loss of an outstanding Virginian, Lewis Franklin Moore, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lewis Franklin Moore, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
