WHEREAS, Travis Lyle Brannon, a senior at Patrick Henry High School in Washington County, is honored as the 2006 Farm Bureau Insurance/Virginia High School League Group A Male Athlete of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Travis Brannon, along with other superb high school athletes, was honored for his superior achievement in Virginia High School League (VHSL) sports and school activities on May 15, 2006, in Richmond at an awards luncheon; and

WHEREAS, Travis Brannon is the first recipient from Washington County Public Schools to receive the distinguished VHSL honor, which is awarded each year to the top male and female student athletes in each of Groups A, AA, and AAA statewide; and

WHEREAS, a competitive and hard-working athlete, Travis Brannon has earned four varsity letters in football, baseball, golf, and basketball; and

WHEREAS, Travis Brannon is acclaimed as one of Patrick Henry High School's top basketball players, the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,256 career points, as well as an All-Hogoheegee District winner for the past three years; and

WHEREAS, committed to his education and future, Travis Brannon is also a stellar student and first in his class at Patrick Henry High School; and

WHEREAS, Travis Brannon will play basketball in 2006-2007 as a freshman at the University of Virginia's College at Wise; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic community supporter, Travis Brannon generously volunteers at the Glade Spring Children's Organization, helping youth in need; he has also been invaluable in establishing a fundraiser for a young child with leukemia; and

WHEREAS, Travis Brannon and the other VHSL student athletes and academic activities participants are an inspiration and a shining example for students across the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Travis Lyle Brannon for his well-deserved accolades and statewide recognition as the 2006 Farm Bureau Insurance/Virginia High School League Group A Male Athlete of the Year; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Travis Lyle Brannon as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his outstanding performance and best wishes for continued success in the future.
