2006 SPECIAL SESSION I
068623348WHEREAS, the Louisa County Rescue Squad is recognized for 50 years of exemplary service to the citizens of Louisa County and the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, in October 1956, a group of concerned Louisa County citizens was inspired to form a countywide rescue squad for its growing population; and
WHEREAS, with the advice of helpful members from the neighboring rescue squad of Orange County and the aid of community leaders and enthusiastic residents, the Louisa County Rescue Squad was founded on November 1, 1956; and
WHEREAS, hard-working and dedicated volunteers participated in first aid classes and organized fundraisers to benefit the fledgling rescue squad; and
WHEREAS, plans were initiated and officers chosen and it was decided that station wagons would be equipped as the first ambulances to be located in the towns of Louisa and Mineral; and
WHEREAS, on November 5, 1956, nineteen residents completed an American Red Cross first aid course, and the first campaign raised over $3,600 in contributions to benefit the new rescue squad; and
WHEREAS, in a total community effort, Duty Unit No. 1, manned with a four-person crew in a 1957 Ford station wagon equipped with first aid gear, was ready to answer emergency calls; and
WHEREAS, the Louisa County Rescue Squad maintained service from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., and the first duty crew was available for rescue calls for seven nights alternating with Duty Unit No. 2; and
WHEREAS, in an amazing effort of cooperation and coordination, and in order to serve all of the residents of the community, emergency calls were dispatched through local telephone operators, the Sheriff’s Office, the Louisa Medical Center, and local State Troopers; and
WHEREAS, the 50-year success of the Louisa County Rescue Squad is attributed to the commitment of rescue squad members and the support of the citizens of Louisa County, and the squad is blessed with state-of-the-art rescue vehicles and life-saving equipment and highly trained advanced life support technicians; and
WHEREAS, over the years, hundreds of Louisa County Rescue Squad members have generously volunteered thousands of hours of their time and immense skill to serve their fellow citizens in need of medical assistance; and
WHEREAS, with a tribute on Saturday, May 20, 2006, the Louisa County Rescue Squad, with great pride, honors its distinguished charter members who persevered in the creation of an invaluable organization and all of the outstanding senior and junior members who have continued the squad's mission "to assist in the delivery of basic and advanced life support care for the citizens of Louisa County"; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Louisa County Rescue Squad on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Louisa County Rescue Squad as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for the organization's outstanding dedication and continued service to the citizens of Louisa County.
