WHEREAS, Walter C. Ayers, Chief Executive Officer and President of the Virginia Bankers Association, is retiring after 23 years of outstanding service; and
WHEREAS, Walter Ayers, a native of Patrick County and a graduate of The College of William and Mary, has distinguished himself as an effective leader and a persuasive advocate for Virginia’s banking industry; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as the Virginia Bankers Association (VBA) chief executive, Walter Ayers has been invaluable in guiding the state in the modernization and improvement of its banking laws, and the Commonwealth has maintained a favorable banking environment to the benefit of banks and the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Walter Ayers has successfully led the VBA’s efforts in the United States Congress and before state and federal banking regulators and has made other lasting contributions to the success of Virginia’s banking industry; and
WHEREAS, under Walter Ayers' exceptional leadership, the VBA has established itself as a premier banking association in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Walter Ayers is a true Virginia gentleman and is greatly admired for his integrity and impeccable character; and
WHEREAS, an innovative and visionary leader, Walter Ayers has earned the respect of Virginia's legislators and bankers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Walter C. Ayers for his dedicated and distinguished service on behalf of Virginia's banking industry; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Walter C. Ayers as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his numerous achievements and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling retirement.
