068553500WHEREAS, the Falls Church Housing Corporation is recognized for its outstanding service to the citizens of the City of Falls Church; and
WHEREAS, a group of concerned local community leaders met at the home of the vice mayor, Ed Straight, in 1981 to discuss the need for an organization to provide affordable housing to citizens in need in Falls Church and the immediate region; and
WHEREAS, as a result, the Falls Church Housing Corporation (FCHC) was founded and incorporated in November 1981, supported by Mayor Carol DeLong and sponsored by the Falls Church City Council; and
WHEREAS, one of the FCHC's major projects was the purchase and development of the Winter Hill Apartments in 1987 with the aid of the Fairfax County Housing Authority and the Virginia Housing Development Authority; and
WHEREAS, the Winter Hill Apartments, a Housing and Urban Development Section 8 project, provides housing for eligible, low-income seniors and citizens of any age with physical disabilities; and
WHEREAS, FCHC is committed to developing and maintaining permanent and affordable rental homes to meet a substantial and continually growing need for housing in Falls Church; and
WHEREAS, FCHC owns and operates a total of 91 rental units for low- and very-low-income residents in the community; and
WHEREAS, since its inception, FCHC has provided exemplary management and maintenance of affordable housing properties and has helped to increase public awareness of local housing needs; and
WHEREAS, FCHC has had a successful partnership with the City of Falls Church, providing services that help to implement the city’s housing goals and promoting community-wide support for housing solutions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Falls Church Housing Corporation for its outstanding service to the City of Falls Church; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Falls Church Housing Corporation as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for its dedication to improving the quality of life of the citizens of Falls Church and the Commonwealth.
