HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 5008 Commending the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

WHEREAS, for 50 years the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., has played an important and integral role in the civic and charitable life of the Arlington and Alexandria communities; and

WHEREAS, since its founding in 1956, the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter has served the residents of Arlington and Alexandria by providing economic, civic, and educational assistance, as well as conducting outstanding mentoring and tutorial programs for young people, such as Project Step Out for girls, Boys Value AKAdemy, Young Authors, and Reading Is Fundamental; and

WHEREAS, dedicated to improving the quality of life for all of the residents of the community, the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter generously orchestrates the annual Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner for more than 100 seniors; sponsors a shelter support program that offers dinners, gifts, and personal items for people in emergency shelters; and implements nonpartisan community voter outreach and registration activities; and

WHEREAS, the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter has been successful in its community endeavors because of strong partnerships with dedicated civic, advocacy, and religious organizations, as well as concerned citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a ceremony and festivities at the Community Breakfast/Ivy AKAdemy on May 27, 2006, at the Army Navy Club in Arlington; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Zeta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for its commitment to the citizens of Arlington and Alexandria and best wishes for future success.
