SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE: (all summaries)
Identity theft; penalties. Imposes a Class 6 felony for an identity theft violation if five or more persons' identifying information was obtained in the same transaction or occurrence and a Class 5 felony where 50 or more persons' identifying information was obtained in the same transaction or occurrence. The bill does not change provisions of current law that punish identity theft as a Class 1 misdemeanor unless there is a financial loss greater than $200, in which case the penalty is a Class 6 felony.
