SUMMARY AS PASSED:
Brandishing a machete; penalty. Makes it illegal to point, hold or brandish a machete or any weapon with an exposed blade 12 inches or longer with intent to intimidate. The punishment is a Class 1 misdemeanor unless the offense occurs on or within 1000 feet of school property, in which case it is a Class 6 felony. This bill is identical to HB 588.
SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:
Brandishing a machete; penalty. Makes it illegal to point, hold or brandish a machete or any weapon with an exposed blade 12 inches or longer in a threatening manner. The punishment is a Class 1 misdemeanor unless the offense occurs on or within 1000 feet of school property, in which case it is a Class 6 felony.
