2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Tara Hamilton Perkinson, Journal Clerk of the Senate of Virginia, serves as Associate Vice-President of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries (ASLCS) for 2005-2006; and
WHEREAS, the ASLCS was founded in 1943 to improve legislative administration and establish better communication among clerks, secretaries, and their staffs throughout the United States and its territories; and
WHEREAS, in 1974, the ASLCS was one of several state legislative groups to form the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), and the society remains the most active of NCSL’s 10 staff sections; and
WHEREAS, the ASLCS has a membership of over 300 principal clerks and secretaries, as well as legislative support staff representing all 50 states and several United States territories; and
WHEREAS, Tara Perkinson has been an active member of the ASLCS and has served as chair of the Support Staff Committee, editor of The Professional Journal, and as a vice chair or member of several key committees, and she has also represented the Senate Clerk’s Office at the Canadian-American Clerks' meetings; and
WHEREAS, as editor of The Professional Journal, Tara Perkinson reached out to other staff sections of NCSL in order to provide to members articles and other pertinent information regarding issues that impact the legislative process; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Tara Perkinson has served the ASLCS in numerous capacities, including as an appointed associate member and an elected associate member of the Executive Committee; and
WHEREAS, a consummate professional and leader, Tara Perkinson will continue to serve as an exceptional Associate Vice-President of the ASLCS for 2005-2006; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, That Tara Hamilton Perkinson be hereby commended and congratulated on her selection as Associate Vice-President of the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tara Hamilton Perkinson as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s appreciation for her exemplary service to the Senate and her continuing professional accomplishments.
