WHEREAS, Jones, Blechman, Woltz and Kelly, P.C. is recognized for its outstanding legacy of community service helping persons in need in southeastern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Jones, Blechman, Woltz and Kelly, with offices in Newport News and Williamsburg, is not only one of the most revered law firms in the Peninsula but also has a remarkable 100-year legacy of outstanding community service, which was inspired by founding partner Allan D. Jones; and

WHEREAS, the tradition of the firm's philanthropy continued with the founder's partner and colleague, Franklin O. Blechman, who became the first recipient of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce's Distinguished Citizen Award; and

WHEREAS, another illustrious partner, Herbert V. Kelly, carried on the tradition when he joined Jones, Blechman, and Woltz in 1946; he was honored in 1954 as Outstanding Young Man of the Year for the Lower Peninsula of Virginia for his generous spirit of giving back to the community; and

WHEREAS, Herbert Kelly also received the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce’s fourth Distinguished Citizen Award in 1984, as well as the Peninsula United Way’s first Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award; at the age of 85, he is the firm's senior partner, still comes to the office every day, and remains a model community benefactor serving as the board chair of Riverside Regional Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, managing partner, Rick Donaldson, is just one of the firm's many attorneys of the new generation, who gives his time and talents to area nonprofit organizations; and

WHEREAS, so it has been throughout the existence of Jones, Blechman, Woltz and Kelly, P.C.; all of the partners, attorneys, and staff are inspired by the tradition of making a difference in the lives of their fellow citizens and the joy of giving back to the community--76 compassionate and dedicated members of the firm volunteer at more than 50 community organizations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Jones, Blechman, Woltz and Kelly, P.C. for the firm's long tradition of outstanding community service; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jones, Blechman, Woltz and Kelly, P.C. as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration and gratitude for the firm's commitment to the citizens of southeastern Virginia and the Commonwealth.
