2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Maya Davis of Fairfax Station was named Miss Pre-Teen Virginia in the Junior Division at the statewide competition held in Williamsburg on September 15-17, 2005; and
WHEREAS, the Pre-Teen America Scholarship and Recognition Program was founded in 1990, and during 2005, 40 states actively participated in the program; and
WHEREAS, the Pre-Teen America program is an event designed to recognize the nation's outstanding pre-teens, as well as to provide an avenue to promote high morals, standards of excellence, fellowship, family values, and social development; and
WHEREAS, a by-invitation-only scholarship and recognition event, the Pre-Teen Virginia program honors girls 7 to 12 years of age based on their school academic records, their awards and honors, as well as their participation in outside activities; and
WHEREAS, this year's state finalists were evaluated on academic achievement, volunteer service to the community, school honors and activities, development of personal skills and abilities, general knowledgeability, communicative ability, and on-stage acknowledgment of accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Maya Davis won the Best Interview award and the talent competition to capture the title of Miss Pre-Teen Virginia; and
WHEREAS, as the winner of the Pre-Teen Virginia, Junior Division, Maya Davis received a $1,200 educational bond and other gifts and will represent the Commonwealth in the 2006 Pre-Teen America National Competition in Alabama; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Maya Davis on being named Miss Pre-Teen Virginia; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Maya Davis as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and best wishes for continued success.
