SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 55
Commending Springfield American Legion Post #176 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

WHEREAS, Springfield American Legion Post #176 was established in 1955 with a mission to help local veterans and their widows and orphans; and

WHEREAS, members of Springfield American Legion Post #176 faithfully practice its maxim of “Serving Our Community” by volunteering over 30,000 hours each year to aid veterans and their families; and

WHEREAS, Springfield American Legion Post #176 sponsors programs for young people to encourage good citizenship and patriotism, including American Legion Baseball, Boy Scouts of America troops, and American Legion Boys State of Virginia, a comprehensive one-week course in state and local government for high school students; and

WHEREAS, members of Springfield American Legion Post #176 also participate in invaluable community programs to remove debris and litter from a section of the Fairfax County Parkway, conduct blood drives, visit patients and residents of the Washington Veterans Administration Hospital, and actively participate in the civic activities of the Springfield Inter-Service Club Council; and

WHEREAS, Springfield American Legion Post #176 has grown to be the largest post in Virginia with nearly 2,000 enthusiastic and devoted members; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Springfield American Legion Post #176 on the occasion of its 50th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the dedicated members of Springfield American Legion Post #176 as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for their continuing efforts to improve the quality of life of veterans and their families, as well as their commitment to all of the citizens of Fairfax County.
