2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Patrick McGroarty, Paul VI Catholic High School’s head football coach, was honored as the 2005 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Patrick McGroarty, who is also the high school’s dean of students, has taught in Catholic schools for over 17 years; and
WHEREAS, Patrick McGroarty graduated from The Citadel in South Carolina and played football for its Bulldog team from 1978 to 1981; and
WHEREAS, before coming to Fairfax County’s Paul VI Catholic High School, Patrick McGroarty coached at Bowie State University, his high school alma mater DeMatha Catholic High School, and Eleanor Roosevelt High School, all in Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Patrick McGroarty’s Paul VI varsity football team had nine players selected for the Fall 2005 WCAC all-conference team; and
WHEREAS, in a very tough conference, Patrick McGroarty and the Paul VI Panthers ended the season with a record of 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the WCAC; and
WHEREAS, Patrick McGroarty is an exemplary mentor of young people and an outstanding head football coach; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate Patrick McGroarty for his well-deserved recognition as the 2005 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Patrick McGroarty as an expression of the General Assembly’s appreciation of his many accomplishments and best wishes for continued success in the future.
