SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 290
Commending the United States Military Entrance Processing Command at Fort Lee.

WHEREAS, Virginians have a long tradition of serving in the Armed Forces of the United States, an honorable profession worthy of great recognition; and

WHEREAS, the United States Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM) processes individuals for enlistment or induction into the armed services, based on Department of Justice-approved peacetime and mobilization standards; and

WHEREAS, the Fort Lee Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), a state-of-the-art facility located at 2011 Mahone Avenue at the Fort Lee facility, opened in November 2004; and

WHEREAS, the Fort Lee MEPS is one of a network of 65 processing centers of USMEPCOM located across the country and in Puerto Rico; and

WHEREAS, testing at the Fort Lee MEPS is administered through the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Career Exploration Program, which is designed to help individuals identify, understand, and organize information about their interests, abilities, and personal preferences for the purposes of planning and pursuing career options; and

WHEREAS, each year, the ASVAB Program, sponsored by the United States Department of Defense, is made available to thousands of students in secondary and postsecondary schools and is used at the Fort Lee MEPS to help new potential recruits plan their futures with the military; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding, well-trained, and knowledgeable soldiers and personnel of the Fort Lee MEPS have the enlistment responsibility for all Virginia localities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the United States Military Entrance Processing Command at Fort Lee for its outstanding service to the citizens of the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Major James J. Galluzzo III, Commander of the Fort Lee Military Entrance Processing Station, as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for the dedicated service of the soldiers and staff of the Fort Lee MEPS.
