SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 28
Celebrating the life of Mozelle Price Russell.

WHEREAS, Mozelle Price Russell, a longtime resident and beloved and respected citizen of Newport News, died on August 11, 2005; and

WHEREAS, born in Pelham, North Carolina, Mozelle Russell attended Pelham Public Schools, and after graduating from high school, moved to Newport News where she would reside for over 50 years; and

WHEREAS, Mozelle Price Russell married the late Willie Percy Russell, who was also from Pelham, and they had two sons, Willie and David, who live in Newport News, and a daughter Jocie LaVerne, who lives in Hampton; and

WHEREAS, Mozelle Price Russell was always ready to help her neighbors in any way she could, as well as respond to the greater needs of the community; and

WHEREAS, Mozelle Price Russell was an active and devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church in Newport News; and

WHEREAS, having been a remarkable woman and compassionate citizen, Mozelle Russell will be fondly remembered for her generous, kind, and loving spirit; and

WHEREAS, Mozelle Price Russell will be sorely missed by her family, her numerous friends and admirers, and the congregation of New Hope Baptist Church in Newport News; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a fine Virginian, Mozelle Price Russell; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Mozelle Price Russell as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
