WHEREAS, Robert “Bob” Campe Goodman, distinguished realtor, businessman, and civic leader in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, died on February 8, 2006, at the age of 94; and

WHEREAS, Bob Goodman was born in Norfolk and attended local schools, graduated from Maury High School in 1929, and then continued his exemplary academic pursuits at Phillips Exeter Academy, Dartmouth College, and the University of Virginia Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review; and

WHEREAS, following work with the federal government from 1937 to 1939, Bob Goodman returned to Norfolk to begin his outstanding career in real estate with the firm of Graydon Realty, which later evolved into Goodman-Segar-Hogan; and

WHEREAS, Goodman-Segar-Hogan grew from eight members to one of the largest real estate firms in the Southeast under Bob Goodman's leadership; in 1974, he retired as chairman of its board, and he then co-founded and served until 1986 on the board of Goodman-Segar-Hogan Residential Realty; and

WHEREAS, throughout his career, Bob Goodman pioneered bringing professional standards to the Tidewater real estate business community through leadership positions in such organizations as the National Institute of Real Estate Management, the American Society of Real Estate Counselors, and the Norfolk and Portsmouth Board of Realtors; and

WHEREAS, the range of Bob Goodman's civic contributions illustrates his devotion to his community and this Commonwealth and includes service as chairman of the United Way, president and founder of the Downtown Norfolk Association, and board member for the Chamber of Commerce, Norfolk Symphony, and the development committee for the Eastern Virginia Medical School; and

WHEREAS, following his retirement from Goodman-Segar-Hogan, Bob Goodman focused on two projects: chairmanship of the Virginia Beach Clean Community Commission and founding chairmanship and then service on the executive committee as chairman emeritus for the Virginia Beach Foundation; and

WHEREAS, this notable business and civic leader was also devoted to his family--his wife of 67 years, Augusta Straus Goodman, his children, and grandchildren--and his many friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Robert Campe Goodman and express its deep appreciation for his many contributions to his profession, his community, and this Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Campe Goodman, so that they may know of the great esteem and admiration of the General Assembly for this outstanding citizen and his numerous accomplishments and good works.
