Celebrating the life of Robert Clyde Boaz.

WHEREAS, Robert Clyde Boaz of Stuart, respected citizen and admired businessman, died on December 24, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Robert Clyde “Buck” Boaz was born on August 30, 1916, in Stuart and was the seventh of eight children of the late James Robert and Kate Gilley Boaz; he was educated in Patrick County schools, at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, and at Scranton Lackawanna College in Scranton, New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, Buck Boaz served his country during World War II in the China-Burma-India Theater, stationed in Calcutta, India, as a sergeant in the United States Army, Quartermaster Corps; he also served at the Office of Strategic Services in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, before and after his military service, Buck Boaz was employed as an accountant for E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Company in New Jersey and Virginia; and

WHEREAS, in 1946, Buck Boaz became a partner in Hudson’s Drug Store, a local business that was an integral part of the life and culture of Stuart for over five decades, and worked there until the store closed in 2001; and

WHEREAS, active in numerous community organizations, Buck Boaz was a charter member of the Patrick County Jaycees, a charter member and president of the Stuart Lions Club, and a member of the board of directors and treasurer of R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital; he was a member of American Legion Post 105, president of the Stuart PTA and the Patrick County United Fund, and chairman of the Patrick County Heart Fund; and

WHEREAS, Buck Boaz also gave generously of his time and immense talents as a member and master of Mountain Home Lodge #263, A.F. and A.M.; a district deputy of the 39th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge of Virginia; a 32 degree Mason and member of the Danville Chapter of the Scottish Rite; and a member and patron of Stuart Chapter #25, Order of the Eastern Star; and

WHEREAS, Buck Boaz participated in local and state civic and political affairs and was an active member and chairman of the Patrick County Democratic Party and a member of the State Central Committee of the Democratic Party of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, a devoted member of Stuart United Methodist Church, Buck Boaz served as superintendent of the church school, as lay leader, and as a member and chairman of the church administrative board; and

WHEREAS, Buck Boaz will be sorely missed by his family, his numerous friends and admirers, and the citizens of Patrick County; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Robert Clyde Boaz; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Robert Clyde Boaz as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
