Celebrating the life of Frances Ann Minor Litten.

WHEREAS, Frances Ann Minor Litten, gracious benefactor and honored citizen of the Town of Bridgewater, died on June 4, 2005; and

WHEREAS, the daughter of Bennett and Mattie Minor, Frances Minor was born in Owenton on March 18, 1929, graduated as a teacher from Madison College (now James Madison University) in 1949, and married Donald Douglas Litten on December 23 of that same year; and

WHEREAS, committed to the education and well-being of children, Frances Litten taught school for several years in both Shenandoah and Rockingham Counties; and

WHEREAS, Frances Litten was the wife of the town attorney and the mother of the assistant town attorney, and was an integral part of the happenings of Bridgewater and the lives of its citizens; and

WHEREAS, Frances Litten participated in diverse and worthwhile activities in the community, serving on the advisory boards of the Edith Carrier Arboretum and the North River Library, and participating in Greener Harrisonburg, the James Madison University alumni association, and many charity events; and

WHEREAS, an accomplished horticulturist, Frances Litten was a member and past president of the Round Hill Garden Club, a member of the board of directors of the Shenandoah District of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc., and a flower show judge accredited by the National Council of Accredited Flower Show Judges; and

WHEREAS, Frances Litten will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by her family, the members of Bridgewater United Methodist Church, and her many friends and admirers in the community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of a kind and benevolent Virginia gentle lady, Frances Ann Minor Litten; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Frances Ann Minor Litten as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
