2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Janette Carter, a prominent Virginia musician, died on January 22, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Janette Carter served as an ambassador of the rich musical legacy of Southwest Virginia, creating the Carter Family Fold, where visitors could experience the traditions of the region's music; and
WHEREAS, Janette Carter was the honored recipient of the 2005 National Endowment for the Arts Bess Lomax Hawes Award due to her lifelong efforts to preserve and perform Appalachian music; and
WHEREAS, Janette Carter, through her music and friendship, was an inspiration to many artists, individuals, and organizations in Southwest Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Janette Carter will be fondly remembered by her family and fans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Janette Carter; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Janette Carter as an expression of the respect in which her memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
