065758744WHEREAS, The Herndon Times honored Mayor Michael O'Reilly by naming him Citizen of the Year for 2005; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Michael O'Reilly has served Herndon in divisive times and has worked to keep the community together through his unwavering leadership; and
WHEREAS, Mayor O’Reilly holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and a juris doctor from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America; and
WHEREAS, Mayor O’Reilly is a member of the Herndon Dulles Chamber of Commerce; served on the board of directors for the Council for the Arts of Herndon and for Downtown Herndon, Incorporated, a Virginia Main Street program; and was the volunteer incorporator and is now an advisory board member of Vecinos Unidos/Neighbors United, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Michael O'Reilly has devoted much of his life to public service, having previously served as a member of the Herndon Town Council and the Herndon Planning Commission, and as a chair of both the Architectural Review Board and the Heritage Preservation Review Board; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Mayor Michael O'Reilly; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mayor Michael O'Reilly as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for his leadership and valuable service to the citizens of Herndon.
