2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, Trevor Ray Cobb of Chesapeake, a respected citizen, dedicated community activist, and the corresponding secretary for the Chesapeake Republican Party, died on January 23, 2006; and
WHEREAS, Trevor Ray "Tony" Cobb was born on February 3, 1974; educated in Norfolk Public Schools; moved with his family to Virginia Beach, where he graduated from Salem High School in 1992; and earned a political science degree with a minor in business from Norfolk State University in 1996; and
WHEREAS, an enthusiastic and talented administrator, Tony Cobb was a manager, as well as a district manager for One Stop Cellular Corporation; and
WHEREAS, committed to improving the quality of life for his fellow citizens, Tony Cobb served as a commissioner on the board of the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority; and
WHEREAS, Tony Cobb was active in political affairs, especially on the local level, and was the corresponding secretary for the Chesapeake Republican Party; and
WHEREAS, a tireless community supporter, Tony Cobb participated in numerous civic, political, and professional organizations, including as a volunteer for the Norfolk Community Hospital, Chesapeake Youth Committee, Summer Upward Bound Program, and Friends of Norfolk Juvenile Court; as a member of the Comprehensive Plan Advisory Team of Chesapeake, American Society for Public Administration, and Conference of Minority Public Administrators; as vice chairman and chief financial officer of Chesapeake Synergy; and as an active alumnus of Norfolk State University; and
WHEREAS, Tony Cobb has received many honors, including recognition by the City of Norfolk in 1988 for Outstanding Citizenship, by Governor L. Douglas Wilder in 1991 as a True Future Business Leader and Politician, by Who’s Who Among American High School Students in 1992, and by the Virginian-Pilot in 2002 as one of 20 Leaders Under 30 in "African-Americans Today"; and
WHEREAS, Tony Cobb was a member of Campostella Heights Seventh Day Adventist Church, where he was active since an early age; and
WHEREAS, Tony Cobb will be sorely missed by his family, his numerous friends and admirers, and the citizens of Chesapeake and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding community activist and fine Virginian, Trevor Ray Cobb; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Trevor Ray Cobb as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
