On the death of Wilbur Doyle.

WHEREAS, Wilbur Doyle, a successful Henry County businessman and a noted community leader in Henry County and Martinsville, died on January 2, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Wilbur Doyle established the first of his numerous successful companies, Doyle Lumber, Inc., in 1948, the same year he graduated from Wake Forest College (now Wake Forest University); and

WHEREAS, Wilbur Doyle later established Doyle Foundation, Inc., in 1952; Doyle Ready-Mix Concrete Co., in 1956; Doyle Industries, Inc., in 1976; and Arrowood Technologies, Inc., in 1984; and

WHEREAS, a past president of the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association, Wilbur Doyle was a former president of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, a former president of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and a former member of the Economic Policy Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of the United States; and

WHEREAS, as head of the Henry County Industrial Development Authority, Wilbur Doyle worked closely with his counterpart from the Martinsville Industrial Authority to form the original Martinsville-Henry County Economic Development Corporation; and

WHEREAS, a 55-year member of the Rotary Club of Martinsville, Wilbur Doyle was a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary's highest distinction; and

WHEREAS, over the course of a long and singularly successful business career, Wilbur Doyle served the Martinsville and Henry County communities with dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with sadness the passing of an exceptional Virginian, Wilbur Doyle; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Wilbur Doyle as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
