2006 SESSION
WHEREAS, the 2005 boys' tennis team from John Handley High School in Winchester capped an outstanding season by winning the Virginia High School League Group AA state tennis championship; and
WHEREAS, on their way to a 21-2 season, the Handley Judges won the Northwestern District championship by defeating Fauquier High School, 5-0, then won the Region II title over Stone Bridge High School by the same 5-0 score; and
WHEREAS, in the state semifinal match, the Handley Judges defeated Jamestown High School, 5-2, to advance to the finals against Blacksburg High School; and
WHEREAS, the team from Blacksburg, like so many others during the 2005 season, failed to stop the momentum of the Handley team and fell in the state title match by a 5-1 score; and
WHEREAS, the Handley tennis team was comprised of Rob Adams, Tyler Crowe, Alex Funkhouser, Daniel Gardiner, Michael Milanov, Tommy Moomau, John Roberts, Mike Singer, Matt Westfall, and Tucker White; and
WHEREAS, John Handley High School's state championship tennis team, coached by James Robertson and Dwight Carpenter, demonstrated intensity, teamwork, and athletic ability throughout the exceptional 2005 season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend and congratulate the boys' tennis team from John Handley High School on its 2005 Group AA state tennis championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach James Robertson in honor of the championship performance of the John Handley High School boys' tennis team.
