Celebrating the life of Lance Corporal Daniel Scott Resner Bubb.

WHEREAS, United States Marine Corps Lance Corporal Daniel Scott Resner Bubb, a resident of Grottoes, was killed in action in Iraq on October 17, 2005, one day before his 20th birthday; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Bubb, a friendly and determined young man at Fort Defiance High School, enjoyed being a drummer for the school marching band and working as a tour guide at Grand Caverns; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Bubb decided he wanted to serve his country because of the tragedy on September 11th; after graduation, he joined the Marines on October 18, 2002, the day he turned 17; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Bubb was serving his second tour of duty in Iraq and was assigned to the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, California; in Operation Iraqi Freedom, his unit was attached to the 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force; and

WHEREAS, on October 17, 2005, Lance Corporal Bubb died when his unit was engaged in small-arms fire while conducting combat operations against enemy forces in Al Rutbah, Iraq; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Bubb was awarded several medals and ribbons for his exceptional dedication to duty, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Bubb was devoted to his loving family--his mother Janey (Bubb) Harrah and his stepfather Steven Harrah, his two brothers Jonathan and Justin, his grandmother Peggy Bubb, his aunt Julie Bubb, the memory of his grandfather "Pappy" John Bubb, and beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members; and

WHEREAS, a hometown boy, who was a hero and who will be remembered as a patriot, Lance Corporal Bubb was outgoing and made everyone he met feel like they were a part of his family; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Bubb's death is a reminder of the hazards faced daily by the thousands of young Americans who serve in our armed forces overseas and whose devotion to duty places them in harm's way; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a courageous and patriotic Virginian, Lance Corporal Daniel Scott Resner Bubb; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lance Corporal Daniel Scott Resner Bubb as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly and the citizens of Virginia.
