Commending Katherine Morrison.

WHEREAS, Katherine Morrison, the outstanding president and chief executive officer of The Campagna Center in Alexandria, will retire on February 17, 2006; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Morrison led The Campagna Center with great strength, dignity, and grace for nearly 15 years, and her numerous contributions to the community of Alexandria are immeasurable; and

WHEREAS, founded in 1945, The Campagna Center is the largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving the children of Alexandria, and under Katherine Morrison’s leadership, the program has grown to serve more than 1,500 children each day with an annual budget of almost $9 million; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Morrison has selflessly dedicated her life to improving the community for all Alexandrians, and during her tenure, she raised awareness of the important social and educational issues impacting the lives of underserved children and their families; and

WHEREAS, because of Katherine Morrison's superb leadership and vision, existing services such as Head Start, Campagna Kids, Wright to Read, and the award-winning Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program evolved or were expanded to address the ever-changing needs of clients; and

WHEREAS, with her breadth of knowledge, personal and professional integrity, and compassionate spirit, Katherine Morrison was a natural to spearhead innovative programming that improved the quality of life for all Alexandrians regardless of age, race, or socioeconomic background; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Morrison was invaluable in implementing vital new programs such as Early Head Start, 21st Century Community Learning Center, and Building Better Futures, which were added to help children develop the skills that lead to successful, self-sufficient adulthood; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Morrison's personal warmth and caring for others is well-known, and she is highly respected by her peers and much beloved by her employees and, perhaps most importantly, by the many families she has served; and

WHEREAS, Katherine Morrison's extraordinary contributions to The Campagna Center are indelibly etched in the history of its programs and the future well-being of the citizens of the City of Alexandria; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate Katherine Morrison on her 15 years of exemplary service to The Campagna Center and the citizens of the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Katherine Morrison as an expression of the General Assembly’s best wishes for a joyful and fulfilling retirement.
